Stopping Smoking
Hypnotherapy for stop smoking in Bristol
Quitting smoking is one of the best decisions you can make for your health and well-being, but it’s not always easy to do alone. That’s where hypnotherapy comes in—helping you develop the right mindset, strategies, and support to quit for good. My stop smoking programme takes a structured, evidence-based approach that goes beyond a quick-fix solution.
Unlike one-session treatments that rely solely on relaxation and suggestion, my programme is comprehensive and tailored to you. Many smokers find that willpower alone, nicotine replacements, or medication don’t address the deeper psychological patterns that keep them smoking. Hypnotherapy helps you detach from old triggers, shift your mindset, and develop healthier ways to manage stress and emotions—so quitting feels natural and sustainable.
Are You Ready to Quit?
Hypnotherapy is most effective when you’re truly ready to stop smoking—not just thinking about it, but committed to making a lasting change. Before booking onto the programme, take a moment to reflect on these questions:
🔸 Why do you want to stop smoking?
🔸 How ready do you feel to quit?
🔸 How motivated are you to make this change?
🔸 How confident do you feel in your ability to stop?
🔸 Are you quitting for yourself or for someone else?
If your answers show a strong desire to quit and a commitment to making it happen, you’re in a great position to succeed. If you feel uncertain, we can explore ways to strengthen your motivation and confidence.
Why Choose My Stop Smoking Programme?
There’s no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to quitting smoking. Research shows that a multi-componential approach—combining hypnotherapy with cognitive and behavioral strategies—is the most effective way to quit smoking. Studies by Lynn and Kirsch (2000) highlight that hypnosis enhances treatment outcomes when integrated with other psychological techniques, rather than being used as a standalone method. More recent research (Green & Lynn, 2018) supports this, demonstrating that combining hypnotherapy with mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral techniques leads to greater long-term success. My programme integrates these evidence-based methods, along with elements from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), ensuring you have the tools and support to quit for good.
Through three structured sessions, we’ll tackle smoking from multiple angles, ensuring you develop the mindset, habits, and confidence needed to stay smoke-free. Each session is tailored to your individual experience and needs. These are some of the ways we can work together:
🔸 Understand Your Smoking Patterns & Triggers
We’ll use mindfulness techniques and habit tracking to help you recognise when, where, and why you smoke—giving you the power to pause, manage cravings, and make a conscious choice to respond differently.
🔸 Find Healthier Ways to Meet Your Needs
Smoking often provides a sense of relaxation, focus, or relief from boredom. Instead of simply taking it away, we’ll explore what smoking gives you and find healthier, more effective ways to achieve the same benefits.
🔸 Shift Your Mindset & Break the Habit Loop
Many smokers hold beliefs that keep them stuck (e.g., “Smoking helps me relax” or “I’ve tried before and failed”). We’ll challenge these beliefs and reframe your thinking so you can see yourself as a non-smoker. Using habit reversal techniques, we’ll also replace automatic smoking behaviours with new, positive responses.
🔸 Develop Psychological Flexibility & Self-Compassion
ACT- and CFT-based techniques will help you manage cravings and emotions without letting them control your actions. Instead of using willpower alone, you’ll build inner resilience and approach this change with self-kindness.
🔸 Strengthen Motivation & Commitment
If part of you wants to stop but another part resists, we’ll explore what’s holding you back and help you feel fully committed to the change in a way that feels right for you.
🔸 Manage Cravings & High-Risk Situations
Through hypnosis, relaxation techniques, and mindful awareness, you’ll learn how to handle cravings and stressful moments without turning to cigarettes. We’ll also prepare you for the situations where you’re most likely to be tempted, ensuring you stay in control.
🔸 Build Long-Term Control & Prevent Relapse
Quitting isn’t just about stopping—it’s about staying smoke-free. We’ll explore relapse prevention strategies, helping you feel prepared for any challenges that may arise in the future.
🔸 Learn Self-Hypnosis for Ongoing Support
Self-hypnosis is a valuable tool that you can use between sessions to strengthen your resolve and manage cravings. It also supports long-term success, helping you stay smoke-free even after you’ve completed the programme.
What the Programme Involves
The Sessions:
🔸 A 90-minute initial consultation – We’ll explore your smoking habit, identify triggers, and clarify your motivation to quit. You’ll gain a thorough introduction to hypnosis and self-hypnosis, experiencing the power of suggestion through engaging imagination exercises. I’ll guide you through a brief hypnosis experience and teach you how to replicate it as a self-hypnosis process, so you can continue reinforcing change on your own.
🔸 Two 60-minute hypnotherapy sessions (spaced one week apart) – Through hypnosis, we’ll shift your habitual responses to smoking and strengthen your ability to quit with confidence.
🔸 Hypnosis audio recordings – You’ll receive recordings of each session, plus self-hypnosis instructions, so you can continue reinforcing the techniques between and after sessions.
Your Stop Smoking Handbook: This handbook supports your one-to-one sessions, with tasks that will be used to tailor the programme to your specific needs. It provides key information, written exercises, and behavioural tasks to help you make lasting changes. You'll find guidance on what to do between sessions, instructions for practising self-hypnosis, and strategies for relapse prevention—ensuring you have everything you need for lasting success.
This structured programme is designed to help you quit for good, equipping you with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence to stay smoke-free. The full programme is £350, covering all sessions, materials, and support.
