It is a very positive therapy and focuses on ways to move forward, rather than looking back at what has gone wrong.
The great advantage of Hypnotherapy is that it makes use of the trance state, a state that we are all very familiar with. Trance brings both your conscious and subconscious mind on board and focused on the same goal.
We go in to and out of trance many times a day - when we're cycling or driving to work in Bristol, when we're watching Television and even while you are reading this webpage. In fact we go in to a trance state when we are doing anything that requires our concentration.
In a clinical setting a trance state is induced with assistance from a Hypnotherapist using guided imagery, stories, metaphors and suggestions which changes unwanted patterns of behaviour and puts you back in control of your life.

Before commencing hypnotherapy you will have an initial consultation in which we will discuss any issues you wish to change and how you would like Hypnotherapy to help you. Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy will be explained in detail to you in addition to your role in the process. You will receive an introductory taste of what hypnosis is in addition to discovering how powerful your imagination can be and you can make use of the skills you learn during these experiences in between sessions for your own benefit. Any questions you might have about your issues and hypnotherapy can be discussed too. We will discuss how stress is created, how thoughts affect feelings and behaviours and how you can gain control of these.
In subsequent sessions we will use hypnotherapy to focus your mind positively on the issues you would like to deal with, helping you to move forward. During the first part of each session we'll talk about the progress you have made and I'll be encouraging you to express yourself positively, focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on problems. We will discuss what you would like to get from the session, setting goals where appropriate and learning further ways to relax, get your thoughts under control and use your imagination positively. During the hypnosis you will either be laying on a treatment couch or sat in a chair. You will be guided through a very enjoyable process using imagery, metaphors and suggestions to bring about change in your life and leaving you feeling calm, relaxed and refreshed.
Many people believe that Hypnotherapy is something that is "done" to them, that they explain their problems to their hypnotherapist who then simply hypnotises their problems away, as if by magic. But this is not the case. Hypnotherapy is a much more collaborative process and it is important to understand that change happens because you want it to and because you are prepared to take the necessary steps to allow it to happen.
You will receive a FREE 30-minute guided relaxation / self-hypnosis audio track that you can listen to in between hypnotherapy sessions which will familiarise you with hypnosis and will help your progress. In addition to listening to the audio track, you will be required to practice the tools and techniques that we go through to ensure you get the most from our sessions together and so that you can support yourself in the future.
